Bottle Heaven!

If you’ve seen the pics of our herb and spice pantry, you’d note that there are a lot of bottles. Add chiles, canning, botanicals, cheese making, flours, sugars, beans, and anything I’ve forgotten and you’re talkin’ a bunch of bottles. Bought at regular retail prices, (which we’ve done too much), you can spend a small fortune on them.

No mas…

Check out Seattle’s Specialty Bottle. Oh my Lawd! Every kind of bottle, jar, jug and pail you might need or want, at fantastic prices, and it mean between fifty cents and a buck a piece for many, even if you’re only buying one, (as in, the ones I paid two bucks for cost .69) 😉

Great folks, amazing selection. They ship from both Seattle and Nashville, so they got y’all covered on either coast. Go forth and bottle, you’ll find their link to the right of this post as well, for future reference.

Nuther Fine Supplier

Been looking into house made bitters lately. Have found, in researching that process, that botanical purveyors, like herbs, can be a mixed bag, often with frustrating results not realized until you receive product that just doesn’t cut the mustard…

Enter this great outfit for supplies out of Seattle, Dandelion Botanical.

In addition to the relatively offbeat botanical stuff needed to make bitters at home, they have a great selection of culinary herbs and salts, with four beautifully varied smoked versions of the latter. They feature a wide selection of herbs, including Chinese, as well as essential oils, flower essences, tinctures, and bulk teas; there’s also a bunch of naturopathic and Ayurvedic stuff as well. Take some time to poke around all these selections and you’ll note they have a huge inventory.

Most salient point in recommending them, they are uber concerned about quality, provenance, and reliability of all their stuff; every item has a code telling you origin and nature, such as certified organic, wildcrafted, commercially grown, grown without pesticides, and Sulfur-Free – Really makes quality shopping a lot easier.

Prices range from very good to downright cheap for high quality products. The folks are all great.

As always, we encourage you first and foremost to see if there’s a quality supplier close to you. If not, or if your just not finding that one thing you need, these folks are well worth your patronage, and you’ll find their link added to ours over there on the right.

When Natural Ain’t

Seen the ‘Simply’ juices in the store?

I have. We’ve bought them, too. And by so doing, we became guilty of the If You Don’t Read Before You Buy trap…

Check out this story about the Simply products.

Caveat Emptor, gang…

A great reminder to get and use some kind of guide to who makes what, and to use it faithfully.

I have the Buycott app on my phone. I’ll be more careful, next time.

Gut Feelings

Great article about good gut bacteria and their link to weight loss; takes the steam right outta the hype and sets it down among cold, hard facts.

Check it out here.

Grosser Yet!!

In response to my last post, Christy pointed out that with a little research, you can probably find a responsible poultry outfit close to you. She’s dead right.

And if the China thing didn’t give you enough impetus for that, maybe this one closer to home will.

That’s just beyond disgusting. BOYCOTT BIG FOOD, period!
